Bogor, 13 August 2026 — A first day as a new student is usually filled with introductions, meeting new friends, and getting to know the campus. For new students at Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata (STP) Bogor, however, those first days are also a chance to look further ahead at the journey they will take through their studies in tourism and hospitality.

On Thursday, 13 August 2026, new students of the Bachelor of Tourism, D4 Hospitality, D3 Hospitality, and the One-Year Hotel Operations and Culinary programmes took part in the new student orientation at the STP Bogor campus. The programme was designed to help students understand what will become part of their daily life on campus: academics, administration, facilities, practical rules, and a picture of the industry experience ahead of them.

For new students, administrative and academic matters can sound rather technical. Yet information about tuition payment procedures, scholarships, and accident insurance cover is important to know from the outset. Nur Zulfa Maulidya, A.Md.Ak. of the Finance department explained these matters, while Brigitta Soraya Apulina Sitepu, S.I.Kom. of Administration introduced the academic calendar, attendance rules, the grading system, and the various academic provisions students need to understand.

There is one thing that only becomes truly apparent once studies are under way: how all the campus systems work together to support learning. For that reason, an introduction to the technology facilities also formed part of the orientation. Muhammad Nur Firdaus, S.Kom. of the IT department introduced the Wi-Fi facilities and SIAKAD (the Academic System), which students will use in their academic activities.

One session that drew particular attention was the introduction to On the Job Training (OJT) by Mariska Wijaya, S.Tr.Par. For students who choose a hospitality education, an internship is not merely a graduation requirement. Time spent in the industry is an important part of connecting what is learnt on campus with real working conditions.

In the OJT session, students were given an overview of the structure and administration of the internship, the cities where placements take place, and the network of hotels and businesses that form part of the STP Bogor learning experience. The explanation made clear from the outset that a student's journey will not take place solely in the classroom. There will be times when they wear a practical uniform, deal with guests, work in a team, follow operating standards, and learn to adapt to the rhythm of the hospitality industry.

To new students, all of that may still feel distant. But orientation is the moment to begin understanding that studying hospitality means preparing for a profession.

Another thing introduced early on is the culture and standards that apply at STP Bogor. Deriza Nur Rizkiani, S.Tr.Par. of Student Affairs explained grooming standards, practical rules, student regulations, and the range of student activities available during their studies.

In hospitality, how a person presents themselves, behaves, communicates, and works with others is not merely a matter of appearance. All of it forms part of how a professional delivers service. For that reason, those habits begin to be formed while students are still on campus. Students were also introduced to group and student activities that offer space to build experience beyond their academic work.

The orientation then took students to another side of campus life through introductions to the Public Relations and Operations departments. Tasya Septiani, S.Par. of campus Public Relations introduced the various activities and programmes related to referrals, including opportunities for students to take part in campus introductions, promotional activities, and campus tours.

Rizal Maulana, S.E. of Operations, meanwhile, gave an overview of how campus facilities are used, including the rules for borrowing rooms and equipment and the regulations governing classrooms and practical spaces. The explanation became all the more relevant when students were shown the very rooms that will form part of their daily routine.

It was at this point that students could begin to picture that their learning will not always mean sitting in a classroom listening to material. There are practical rooms for honing skills, activities that demand teamwork, and experiences that require learning by doing.

In the end, new student orientation is not simply an exercise in introducing campus rules. More than that, it is an opportunity for students to understand what lies ahead of them, what is expected of them, and how the campus will be part of that journey.

From the academic system to OJT, from grooming to practical facilities, students were introduced to the many aspects that will shape their experience during their studies. From day one, they begin to be introduced to something larger: the professional world they will one day enter.

A career in tourism and hospitality is not built in a day. There is theory to grasp, skills to practise, experience to gather, and professional character to develop. And it all begins with one simple step: the first day as a student.

Welcome, new students of STP Bogor — Hospitality Professional Change the World.
