Understanding the hospitality industry requires more than theoretical knowledge in the classroom. Students also need opportunities to observe how a hotel operates, how each department performs its responsibilities, and how teamwork contributes to the overall guest experience.
To broaden their industry knowledge, students from the study program D3 Hospitality and D4 Hospitality of Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata (STP) Bogor participated in an Industrial Visit to Gran Meliá Jakarta.
The activity was designed to introduce students to the hotel's working environment, facilities, operational processes, and the roles of different departments within the hospitality business. Through this experience, students were encouraged to connect what they learn on campus with its practical application in the industry.
The program began with an introduction to Gran Meliá Jakarta delivered by the hotel's Human Resources Department. The session provided students with an overview of the hotel's profile and facilities before they proceeded with the hotel tour.
This introduction gave students an opportunity to become familiar with the property's characteristics and the professional environment they may encounter throughout their hospitality careers.
For future hospitality professionals, understanding a hotel involves more than the facilities visible to guests. Behind every guest experience is a coordinated system of operations and teamwork across different departments.
Following the introductory session, students joined a guided hotel tour. During the visit, they had the opportunity to observe the hotel's facilities, service areas, and selected operational departments.
Experiencing the hotel environment firsthand offered a different perspective from learning about hotel operations through classroom materials alone. Students could see how facilities, physical spaces, and working areas form part of the hotel's overall service delivery system.
The activity also helped students gain a better understanding of the working environment and operational practices applied in an international hotel setting.
One of the key activities of the Industrial Visit was a panel presentation featuring representatives from Gran Meliá Jakarta's departments. The session introduced students to the diverse career opportunities available within the hospitality industry. Hotel operations involve more than direct guest services; they also include financial management, marketing and sales, human resource management, and coordination between departments.
Each department has its own responsibilities, yet all work together to support operational efficiency and deliver a positive guest experience.
The Industrial Visit to Gran Meliá Jakarta was an opportunity for students to gain direct exposure to hotel industry practices. The experience complemented their campus learning by introducing them to hotel operations, departmental functions, and management practices in a professional environment.
At STP Bogor, hospitality education is not only about what students learn in the classroom, but also about how they explore, understand, and prepare for the professional industry.
For prospective students interested in building a career in hospitality and tourism, choosing an educational environment that combines academic knowledge with industry exposure is an important step toward preparing for their professional future.
